Vipassana Meditation Center
Spiritual & Mental Health
About the Project
A sanctuary for mental purification and self-transformation through the ancient technique of Vipassana.
History & Impact
Historical Background
Vipassana is one of India’s most ancient meditation techniques, rediscovered by Gotama the Buddha over 2,500 years ago. While it was lost in India for centuries, it was preserved in its pristine purity in Myanmar (Burma) and reintroduced to India in 1969.
The Technique & Schedule
The center follows the traditional 10-day residential course format. During these ten days, participants follow a strict Code of Discipline:
- Noble Silence: No communication (verbal or gestural) with fellow students.
- Daily Routine: A rigorous schedule starting with a 4:00 AM wake-up bell, involving approximately 10 hours of meditation daily.
- Guidance: Instructions are provided via the audio-visual discourses of S.N. Goenka.
Accessibility
In keeping with the ancient tradition, there is no charge for the teaching, room, or board. The center operates entirely on a voluntary donation basis from students who have completed at least one 10-day course.
